Rotoiti To Renwick

The very nature of this course means that you’ll struggle to find a flatter, more ride friendly 90km race/ride in the country. Lake Rotoiti is about 615m above sea-level and the finish by Renwick shows on Google Earth as about 57m above sea-level. A very nice drop of elevation over the 90kms. From the start, there is a slow climb out of St Arnaud to the Tophouse/Nelson turnoff. From there you roll along the top for about 4kms and then descend down past the entranceway to the Rainbow Ski Field turnoff. This short descent can be quite fast and a bit twisty so it pays to keep the concentration levels very high here. Past the Rainbow Station entrance the road flattens out and heads down to Renwick. After that there are only a couple of parts where the road leaves the river and it climbs slightly away. For those of you not familiar with the route then I suggest you go to Google Earth and check it out. All the riding is on S.H.63, St Arnaud to Renwick, down the Wairau Valley.
